I’ve been using Real Player lately, as an extension on my browser, I’m very satisfied with it and it has been very useful to me. The main reason I’ve installed it is to download videos from YouTube, cause I read somewhere that Real Player can easily do that. But soon after I found out that it can do much more. Let alone it is a great video\audio player, it also very functional on many levels.
When the video starts to play, on the top right corner of the video pops up a little rectangle that says “Download this video” or in some cases “Download this clip”, depending what kind of file is it, and with a single click on that button the download immediately starts, showing the progress on the RealPlayer Downloader window. The downloader automatically saves that video\clip in RealPlayer Downloads which by default is placed in ‘My videos’ of ‘My Documents’ (if you’re running Windows).
When the download finishes, on the RP Downloader window, by hovering with the mouse cursor on the downloaded file, some options will appear: Convert, Trim, Copy To and buttons of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and e-mail (for quick share). Using the Converter you can convert the downloaded file in any format that you want; Mp3, Wav, WMV, Apple h.264, 3GP, Windows Media, RealVideo, RealVideoPlus or adapt it directly for your BlackBerry (Bold, Curve, Pearl, Storm). Modifying the characteristics of the chosen format is available.
With the Trimmer you can cut off any piece of the clip you want. Also you can share the file on your social profile.
But it doesn’t mean you got to do it immediately. You can do it later if you want. You just have to open the Real Player Library, browse the downloaded files and manipulate with them in the giving options as you wish.
The best thing is that you can download files not only from YouTube, but also from Vmeo, Dailymotion, LiveLeak and many more. You have try it for yourself.
In the following, I will show you ( with captions) how to install Real Player, to enable it in your browser, to download with it and convert the files.
Hope you will find it useful as I did!

Step 1 : Download the RealPlayer setup from official site.
Step 2: Complete the installation
Step 3: After installation is complete, open your internet browser and enable the RealPlayer add on, in which case your browser will restart and the new application will be ready to use. Tools> Add-ons (I use Firefox, but it shoukd be similar on other browsers)
Step 4: Go to YouTube (just to try it out) and open up a video. You will see on the top right corner of the video the RealPlayer rectangle button that says ‘Download this video’. One click and the downloads starts in a new window called Real Player Downloader.
Step 5: After the download is finished, on the Downloader window hover with the mouse on the title of the downloaded file and Convert button will appear…
Once you have clicked on the Convert button, a new window will appear, called the RealPlayer Converter. There you can select the format and the destination of the converted file. After choosing your specifications just click on the start button and the conversion will over in less than a minute.
