How to disable pinning programs and documents in your Windows 7 Taskbar

One of the new features in Windows 7 is the possibility to easily pin programs and documents just by drag and drop to your taskbar. But in many cases pinning programs and documents to your taskbar makes it ugly and reduces his space. So in this quick guide, I’m going to show you how to disable this feature and prevent your users to pin programs on your taskbar.
1. Go to Start, type gpedit.msc at the search box and press Enter.

2. After the Local Group Policy Editor is opened, from the left list expend the User Configuration and then open the Administrative Templates folder.

3. Then continue by clicking on Start Menu and Taskbar.

4. A huge list of Settings will appear. Scroll down to the bottom and find the Remove pinned programs from the Taskbar and click on it.

5. The dialog windows will appear giving you some options. In this case you have to select Enabled, which in fact will disable the feature to pin items in your Windows 7 Taskbar. Click Apply, close the window and restart your PC in order the changes to be applied.

After the changes took effect, if you try to pin items to your taskbar the situation will be like in the picture below. You will not be able to do it anymore.
