In relation to my recent post ‘How to lock drives in Windows Xp’, I found another solution similar to the one before (by action) that could be used for the same reasons. I guess it is even better if one doesn’t know that a partition exist, won’t try to access it if he doesn’t know that it’s is there. Simple and clean way to protect your privacy and your personal data in case you need to send your PC for repair or any particular reason. Quite practical and pretty cool solution. I could be used even as a joke. You can freak out your friend when she/he sees that all the drives are gone. But off course, all in good spirit.

How to hide partitions in Windows Xp
Step 1. Start > Run. In the text box write ‘gpedit.msc’ and press enter.
Step 2. In the Group Policy window go to : User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer. On the list of Windows Explorer find ‘Hide these specified drives in My Computer’ and double click on it.Step 3. In the new window you have to check the ‘Enabled’ radio button and in the box below choose which drive you want to hide. after that you just click OK.
And the results are immediate.

Step 1. Windows button + R and the Run box will appear. Type ‘gpedit.msc’
Step 2. On the Local Group Policy Editor window, go to: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer. On the list of Windows Explorer find ‘Hide these specified drives in My Computer’ and double click on it.
Step 3. In the new window you have to check the ‘Enabled’ radio button and in the box below choose which drive you want to hide. after that you just click OK.
Result:
If you want the partitions to be shown again you just have to reverse the steps.
